Wargames Figures Paint Conversion Matrix

Catching up on the various blog's this morning, I found a great article by Brian over at The Warband

which detailed how he painted his Russian's, perfect timing as I kick off the next major project.

Perhaps of more interest within the article to the general gamer was an interesting app. that I had not come across before. Power Palette

Reaper Miniatures within their website they have an application called the Power Palette that you can scan an image into and it will match it to the closest Master Series Ccolours from their paint range.

Using Brian's example I also scanned images from my Osprey collection and it produced a suggested a range of colours, I even tried scanning in photo's of a couple of miniatures where I used  Reaper Master paints and with the right lighting it found it's own paint colours even with a varnish coating.

I suspect this will be old news to some but I am seriously impressed, thanks Brian for a great find.

Elizabethan Wars - English Musketeers

Week one of 2013 and another unit complete, I finished the remaining musketeers and calivers from Wargames Foundry Elizabethan and Swashbuckler range.
I used the uniform design from one of the colour plates from the Osprey Armada book. They will serve as Trained bands to go up against the Irish in the Plantation Wars or the Spanish in the Netherlands.

I suspect they will need additional support in the form of the pending Pike Blocks before they go up against the Irish.

Sharp Practice - Shock Point Markers

The last post of the day, but not a bad start to 2013, having made the decision to use Mud & Blood for the Boxer Rebellion I need some shock markers which is one of the common requirements for all Too Fat Lardies rules.

Every wondered what to do with those dead and dying figures that come in command packs these days?

I saw a posting on Sidney Roundwood's Blog which was the inspiration for these shock marker bases. If you have not dropped by his blog please do the level of skill is fantastic and a real source of inspiration to any gamer.

Based on a circular base from Warbases, I added a couple of casualty figures from Peter Pig and a hit marker from Minibits, their markers come in several sizes and at a £1 for 10 markers and dice seems like a real bargain.

These really do tidy up the table top and cut down on the clutter, I can see me creating these for all my armies where I am using the Too Fat Lardies rules.

Boxers Rebellion 1900 Imperial Chinese Army

The second post of the day, having revamped the first of the allied units, I thought I would turn my attention to some of the Boxers and the Imperial Chinese Army, this is one of my favourite units although they never perform well on the table, maybe the new paint job and basing will give them some extra back bone.

 

 Chinese Imperial Army advance on the Allied Barbarians looking to drive them from Chinese soil, all figures my Old Glory, mounted on 1p's and dropped into a warbase movement tray.

 

 

4 Units of Boxers split into 5 figure movement trays, I need to work out a simple way of highlighting the Bigmen of the units, but for now the trays will work, with a generic Big men noted underneath the base, I have marked them all Status I for the ease of game play.

 

Some added added fire to the Boxer forces, I am thinking of classing them as snipers within the Mud & Blood rules, making it easier to get a kill, but not having a mass fire effect such as classing  them as artillery.

15mm Royal Marines & Italian Sailors Boxer Rebellion 1900

Welcome to 2013 I have updated the blog to include a record this year of my efforts and projects, to try and keep on track.

Without further ado the first repaints of the Boxer Rebellion project, 1st up Royal Marines and Italian sailors, the Warbases really bring the units to life and make the units so much more functional.

I just need to work out how to identify the Big Men within the units, for the Allied command the officers are easily identifiable but it is fractionally more difficult for the Boxers.

I brought these 15mm resin tents off e-bay 5 years ago but could not find the enthusiasm to break them out of the blister pack, I was not sure whether to base them separately or on a large scenic base.
