V the Mini Series - Visitor Sky Fighter.

Whilst I wait expectantly for Crooked Dice to produce a Visitor Sky Fighter. ( More in hope and I guess depending on how well the Alien packs have sold.) The Reptiles need some air power to help them keep the humans in check.

The Sky Fighter was a very slick looking craft and very iconic in the mini-series, the fighter and the larger transport were very often seen parked up at road blocks or dropping down to allow the Shock Troopers to spill out.
So my Shock Troopers needed one or at best a proxy for the games in Zikanga.

I picked up the following craft from the guys at Deamonscape who do a cracking range of 25/28mm resin vehicles, I have a couple of them for the Starship Troopers collection and this VTOL offering seemed perfect. With no guns and clean lines it felt very much of the Visitor style.

I thought about giving it a more lived in look but opted for the fresh out of the showroom feel. I did think about hand painting the symbol but in the end pinched one from the web as it stands out on the white background.

Based on the size and scale it should be perfect for a squad of around 6 troopers which is perfect for the games in the pipeline, mostly around capturing one or rescuing one.....

Right back to the serious stuff....

Daemonscape - 25mm Sci-fi Vehicles Part 2

It seems a while since I managed to put paint to brush but I wanted to get these reinforcements completed for the SST campaign as we are nearing the completion of phase one.

The Daemonscape castings paint up really well and are the perfect fit against 1st Corp Colonial infantry. I don't want the Starship Trooper games to become an armour fest, but these give me some mobility without hopefully becoming the kings of the battlefield.

First up the mobile command station, capable of holding 6 figures and a driver, this vehicle can call in orbital support and on station fighter patrols.

Whilst I wanted to give the Mobile Infantry some mobility I did not want their APC's to be brisking with machine guns and large cannons, these are listed as snowcats and seem perfect for the job.

Under the point rules I have classified them as

Komodo IFV – 250 pts
The Komodo Infantry Fighting Vehicle is designed to give the Mobile Infantry a support Vehicle capable of extended operations without the need for a re-supply from fleet. The Komodo has the ability to recharge power suits and oxygen tanks along with  additional ammo and weapon storage. As an IFV it is armed with a Rotary Six Gun cannon.

  • A defence value of 2
  • May carry upto 8 personnel
  • Crew of 1 Leader, 1 Driver & 1 Gunner. (Rep 3)
  • Roatry Cannon (Targets 6, Impact 3)

When combined with the existing transports and walkers they look quite the force and all the models both genuine and proxies fit together well, both in terms of scale and design.

I need to add some decals to the transports, but first a repair job is needed on a number of the SST sections, as I experienced the wargamers nightmare on Sunday night, with the case springing open after being caught by the door to our club house and spilling the contents across the car park !!!!

Casaulties are high with at least 4 killed, 12 seriously wounded and 18 lightly wounded, needing patching and rebasing.  I guess it could have been worse, it could have been spearmen and pike blocks.... :-(

It's bows and arrows against the lightning....

Some day soon my All Quiet on the Martain Front order should arrive.
Having play tested the original rules in the kickstarter campaign, I can't help but think that digging in will be the order fo the day for the Human forces and these defences seem to do just the trick, another purchase from the guys at Daemonscape.

Well detailed and good castings with no signs of bubbles, they are a quick and easy way to represent dug in troops and only took an evening to paint up.

My plan is to retain the traditional Victorian style and period from H G Wells classic novel with a little bit of Steampunk technology rather than diving straight into the 1914 2nd Martian War.
As a child of the 70's it has to be Jeff Wayne all the way....

Enjoy....

Daemonscape - 25mm Sci-fi Vehicles

Just as I think lead mountain is finally shrinking and I have managed to keep purchases in check, something new comes along. I spotted these searching the web looking for suitable vehicles for the SST project.

The Daemonscape castings I believe are the old GZG vehicles in true 25mm scale, the castings are great and the guys have done a great job of cleaning the molds up – sharp, crisp and they fit together really well. I received an e-mail once the order was received and dispatched and the kits were really well packed.

I shall definately be using them again. You can find them here Daemonscape

I wanted some APC's for the Starship Troopers campaign, but did not want to end up down the GW route with each vehicle brisking with machine guns and large cannons, these snowcats and command vehicle seem to fit with the low technology levels needed in the SST universe and the style from the movie which I have based my collection on.
The low offensive capabilities with only a single HMG should also force the mobile Infantry to get out and fight.....

I need to glue all the parts together and add the heavy machine gun but the photo above gives you an idea of the scale when compared to a 1st Corp Colonial Infantryman.

These just jumped the painting queue....
